Training Specialization: Women’s Fitness
Until recently (the last decade or so) fitness experts believed that men and women could be trained the same. However, research over the last few years has shown that women are in need of different fitness training protocols. They began to see topics such as menopause, pregnancy and pelvic health were all topics that require specific attention.
With the emergence of this information, a variety of organizations and educational programs have popped up to try and fill in knowledge gap regarding fitness training for women. A few of these stand out as leaders in this segment of the industry.
One such organization, the Women’s Health Foundation (WHF), believes that women need individual attention. WHF mission is to improve all women’s pelvic health and wellness by being proactive in current research, serving as a national resource on female pelvic health, and developing education programs related to pelvic health. WHF has already, through a partnership with individuals at the Loyola University Medical Center, found that specific exercise techniques (specifically called the “Total Control Program” through WHF) have been effective in improving incontinence and bladder control during both the initial and long term (one year after research trial) follow up.
Another organization leading the way in female health is Healthy Moms (HM). HM is dedicated to enhancing the well being of women before, during, and after pregnancy. In addition to keeping “moms healthy”, HM provides various resources for health and wellness professionals that care for women throughout pregnancy. One of the resources they provide is their “Healthy Moms Advanced Perinatal Fitness Instructor Training Course”. This program helps prepare fitness professionals for creating specific programs that can meet the needs females that are pregnant from the first trimester to delivery.
In addition to their advanced perinatal course, they also provide a variety of other useful programs and information. Areas such as on-site seminars, perinatal specific classes offered at various locations throughout the country, & free tips, advice and articles on their website, are all provided to help those either preparing for pregnancy or in pregnancy be as ready for each stage as possible.
Colleges throughout the country are also beginning to see the importance of women’s health training. Specifically they are offering an ONLINE female fitness/wellness education program titled “Women’s Exercise Training and Wellness”. School’s involved in offering this program include:
*Chicago State University
*State College of Florida
*University of Southern Mississippi
*Washington State University
The goal of this program is to educate an individual in how to establish an exercise program specific to women’s needs. The program covers topics such as musculoskeletal and functional anatomy of the female pelvis, the hormonal/endocrine system, bone density, pre and postpartum fitness, & breast, ovary and uterine cancers.
It’s important, with how many women make up part of your total membership/client base, that you have the skills necessary to properly train them. By utilizing the above mentioned resources, you will guarantee your female clients better results.
Personal Fitness Training
Those wanting to shed a few kilos could not choose a better way of doing it than to undergo some fitness training. Weight loss programs on their own do not always work so well because they leave flabby folds of skin that look unattractive. The person remains unfit and so tends to pile those kilos back on due to lack of exercise rather than overeating.
With personal training you burn more calories. That means you don’t have to starve yourself to get thin and stay at your ideal weight. So a weight loss program that includes fitness training will give a much better result. Not only will you get fit, but you will feel much better about the way your body looks.
Personal training will tighten and tone your skin so that you don’t look flabby. And better still, once you become fit, exercises and fitness training will become easy to do and you will really enjoy undertaking more strenuous activities that before were just too hard for you.
A personal trainer will help you by listening to your goals and then drawing up a fitness and weight loss program that is tailored to your personal needs and fitness levels. This means that you need not be afraid of suffering strain injuries from doing training that is not suited to you.
Your personal trainer will oversee your activities and motivate you to stick with the program while you lose weight and achieve those goals for a better life. It will not be long before people start to notice and admire the new you. Once you drop some of that excess weight and get fitter you will find that you are also much healthier. By becoming fit and healthy through personal training and a good weight loss program you can actually extend your life span.
Getting older when you are overweight and unfit is something that no one enjoys, but if you can approach middle or older age in a fit and healthy body you are much more likely to enjoy life well into those sunset years.
Fitness Training
Fitness training is essential not only for those who want to keep fit, but also for those who want to stay healthy. You can take fitness classes at a fitness centre or go to a health club to achieve health and fitness with group fitness training lessons.
Attending fitness health clubs is better than training alone because it gives you better motivation. When you have to take yourself off for a walk you will be tempted to make any number of excuses not to go. You will be busy, or it will be too hot or cold – anything at all if you don’t enjoy exercising much.
But once you’ve paid you membership at a fitness club you are much more likely to go. For a start, you won’t want to waste that money you paid out, but in addition to that there will be personal fitness trainers available to make up a personal fitness plan for you. Your personal trainer will become your friend and you will look forward to seeing them each week. Additionally, you will be sure to make plenty of other friends who are also undertaking personal fitness training.
Personal training such as is offered by a fitness club will ensure that you do not injure yourself by training inappropriately for your present health and fitness levels. Your unique fitness regime will gradually lead you along the road to fitness and it won’t be long before that cholesterol and high blood pressure will have both gone down, not to mention your weight.
And as your body gets fitter you will find that you can once again enjoy the many activities that you loved to do when you were younger and fitter. You may decide to go dancing, take long walks along the beach or take up a sport because you feel so fit and energetic. Life can only get better when your fitness levels improve.
