About Blood Glucose Monitors
Testing blood glucose has dramatically improved over the years. Sure, you still have to prick your finger (or now there are alternative sites to obtain a blood sample like in the palm of your hand, your thigh or your arm) but the amount of blood, the accuracy and the ease have all gotten a lot better. The process of testing isn’t a pleasant thing for many people although the importance of testing should override any fear or discomfort. The reason to test your blood sugar is because it gives you information you can not find any other way.
Years ago, the blood glucose monitors needed a lot more blood than they do today. Just this fact alone encourages many people who squirm at the site of a needle – and the blood that comes out from it to test more often. Previously, a huge drop of blood had to hang in the air until it dropped onto the test strip. There was a target circle on the test strip to aim for or else additional blood or a new test strip would be needed to obtain additional blood.
Today, the One Touch glucose meter or any One Touch meter as well as most of the other choice meters, take a tiny drop of blood that you can place right on the strip. There have seen tremendous advances in diabetes care and this will continue until we find a cure.
